The Windward Reporting and Document Generation Engine

The Windward Reports Engine is a series of API calls that pulls information from your data sources and places it into report templates. To get started, all your development team has to do is incorporate the Java Report Engine or .NET Report Engine into your company system.

How It Works

The Windward Engine is a product for generating reports that works in conjunction with AutoTag. You design a report in AutoTag and run it with the Engine. There are three major steps to the Windward reporting solution:

  • Design the report templates in Microsoft Office with Windward AutoTag. Visit the AutoTag documentation site for an overview of this report design tool.
  • Set up your environment to work with the Windward Reports Java or .NET Engine. See the Java System Administrator's Guide or .NET System Administrator's Guide for more information.
  • Integrate the Windward Engine into your application. Details found in the Java Programmer's Guide or .NET Programmer's Guide.

Basic Incorporation

The Engine for languages

Windward gives you the unique ability to power your Python reporting projects with our Java Engine by using the Windward Python Wrapper.

Windward gives you the option of implementing our Java Engine in your own PHP reporting projects with the Windward PHP Wrapper.

Windward gives you the option of implementing our .NET Engine in your own C++ reporting projects with the Windward C++ Wrapper.

Windward gives you the unique ability to power your C# reporting projects with our .NET Engine by using the Windward C# Wrapper.

Love Visual Studio but hate SSRS? No problem. If you use Visual Basic Windward you can plug our .NET Engine into your own projects using the Windward Visual Basic Wrapper.

System Requirements

The Windward Engine does not require its own stand-alone server or a separate physical server.

For The .NET Engine:

  • Any version of Windows that can run .NET 2.0. works as the operating system. This includes Windows XP, Windows 2000, Windows 2003, Vista, & Windows 7.
  • No webserver (IIS, Apache, etc) required.
  • There are few full requirements to run the .NET engine. All you need is .NET 2.0 runtime and J# 2.0 runtime, both Microsoft systems that can be downloaded and installed for free.

For The Java Engine:

  • Java 1.3 or higher.
  • If you are running Java on a Unix system, all fonts used in the templates must be properly purchased and installed for a Unix system.
