Javelin

Windward Javelin is a new standalone report and scheduling server that allows for access and control from any application, regardless of programming language. To access Javelin, you simply make a Web service call. And with Javelin, you get:

• The ability to generate reports in ANY programming language. Want to use Ruby or Python? Now you can.
• Flexible deployment – use a version hosted by Windward to reduce costs or deploy a server locally for more control.
• Data source compatibility that lets you use and intermix a variety of sources
• A UI that works in a web browser. The end user doesn't need to install any software to run reports.
• Reports can be scheduled to run automatically. Never forget to send out a report again!

Note: The server does not require Microsoft Office.

Basic Incorporation
Implementing the Javelin is a simple process. Integrate using a simple RESTful API that can be called from browsers and all major programming languages. This makes reporting even easier to integrate into your system. Read more about REST. 

Mail Merge & Document Generation

Windward is a natural fit for Document Generation. Javelin delivers documents with blazing speed. Design your document in Word and pull in additional text and documents in seconds. You can also repeat parts of the document, include conditional parts of a document, and much more.

Excel Report Generation

When you design a Java report in Excel, the template expands all references in the output. For example, SUM(C3:C3), where row 3 is repeated 20 times in the output for 20 rows of data, becomes SUM(C3:C22) when the report is run. (Check out the Excel Formula Example.) All of your output formulas are still live, and output macros are evaluated and the result displayed. Windward also uses full Excel formatting – giving you different formats for positive and negative numbers, currencies, and anything else you need.

PowerPoint Report Generation

When creating reports for a presentation, the natural design tool is PowerPoint. The engine then lets you insert data in real time – so you can turn static presentations into dynamic ones with up-to-the-minute information.
